What d'ye Know ?

When you think of protein, do you think there

1) is only 1 protein

2) are about 200 proteins

3) are over 400 proteins

Fact 1

There are over 400 different proteins which are synthesised within the body out of 20 amino acids. It can be misleading to Quote a supplement as containing xx% of protein as it might consist of only one amino acid which could lead to severe nutritional deficiencies!

What d'ye Know ?

Vitamins are essential in maintaining avian health.  It is important therefore to feed your birds vitamin supplements:

1) ad-lib to ensure they do not suffer vitamin deficiency.

2) carefully to ensure they do not get an overdose.

3) it does not make any difference, excess vitamins are passed through the body and in any case there are enough vitamins in their seed.

        Fact 2

It is important to get the right balance.  For example, too much vitamin A can prevent the absorption of calcium, causing egg binding etc. Too much vitamin D will do the same! A shortage of vitamin D will also inhibit the absorption of Calcium! Confusing isn't it! They can however benefit from an hours direct sunlight per day and fresh green food.  Natures own way of supplying vitamins without the risk of overdose or underdoses.
